Things to subscribe to

  • Fritzwire (An ed policy newsletter that covers everything from job postings to the latest in education news.)
  • Teacher’s Edition (The U.S. Department of Education’s newsletter for teachers.)
  • YEP-DC (Young Education Professionals: Subscribe to their emails to become a member of this group of education professionals that meets for happy hours and hosts a yearly conference.)

Things to read

Reports from the Congressional Management Foundation (These reports give you an idea of how things on Capitol Hill operate. They cover everything from what they are most responsive to in terms of citizen communication to how to meet with members of Congress and their staff.)

Society for Public Health Education’s (SOPHE) Guide to Effectively Educating State and Local Policymakers(In general, this one is geared toward health professionals but chapter two offers great advice for anyone meeting with legislators and their staff.)
